When her father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, eighteen year-old Kate Thompson d9Yisguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers--and justice.
I loved it. Boy, did I absolutely fall in love with it. Kate is ferocious and snarly and I just loved her. And Jesse. Oh, boy did I love him. His country drawl probably helped a bit ;) The hate-turned-love relationship, the bickering, the slow-burning romance that doesn't take over the story just made my heart go a-flutter. And I definitely swooned a bit due to the ultimately sweet, gentlemanly, respectful manner of Jesse (manners that I sorely miss). The story of vengeance and gold and myth and ultimately forgiveness (with a few unexpected twists) just helped solidify my love for it. I NEED more Westerns in my life. And don't even get me started on the brilliance that is that cover.... Full review to come.
