Come revisit a delightful classic romance with me.

Set in 19th century England, the story focuses on Elizabeth Bennet and her family as they navigate the social norms of their times. Elizabeth is such a modern heroine. While her society may dictate some of her actions, she never allows it to dictate her happiness. She stands up to the pressure exuded by her mother and younger sisters with a courage and direction I admire. Her wit and general cheer make her so much fun to be around. How could Darcy not help falling in love with her?

Elizabeth is surrounded by a hodgepodge of lovable secondary characters – sweet Jane, sensible Charlotte, charming Bingley, stoic Darcy, flighty Mrs. Bennett, the list of interesting characters goes on and on. Each character delivers something to the setting or to Jane’s character growth. Of course, Darcy is the best foil to Jane. Their evolving relationship propels their individual arcs. His curt and occasionally standoffish behavior is perfect to her open and sunny disposition. Their witty conversations as well as their insane chemistry make them #relationshipgoals.

Since I read Pride and Prejudice about ten years ago, I decided to listen to it the Audible version last fall. While Rosamund Pike wasn’t a bad narrator, I’d be interested in hearing a full cast production of it.

tl;dr A classic standing the test of time with a modern heroine and zany cast of lovable characters.
