My Boyfriend the Squire started off as Lucinda and her mom and dad are on a plane on their way to Italy to see her brother Caleb. She goes to the toilet mid-flight and magically gets taken back into the Middle Ages where she has to pretend she is Princess Grace and find out what has happened to both the Princess and Countess.

I enjoyed the book although I felt that things didn’t seem as real as they could have for instance as soon as Lucinda arrived in the Middle Ages she wasn’t that phased by it. Whereas a normal person would probably be petrified in that situation. She seemed to trust Chadwick when she didn’t know who he really was. I just felt that these things could have been expanded so it seemed more real.
Lucinda falls in love with Chadwick from 1200AD as he does her, but when she arrives back in 2012 she falls in love with her brother’s best friend, conveniently named Chad. Now they may look like each other but wow I would presume it would be like falling in love with a twin but no two people have the same personalities.
They the both get dragged back to 1200AD again to help the Countess once again. Lucinda finds out Chad is engaged to the Princess making reference that Lucinda and Princess Grace are very much alike. I love her because I loved you. It just doesn’t happen like that.

There was also tragedy in the book and the romance was a will they won’t they and will Lucinda choose Chadwick or Chad.

I feel that the book could have been much longer with a lot more detail.
I think this would best suit 12-15 year old readers.
