Nautical Quilts is a tutorial quilting pattern guide with templates by Lynette Anderson. Due out 14th May 2019 from Sewandso, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This book includes 12 full project tutorials with a nautical theme and includes the templates and photographs/diagrams to complete the projects. The table of contents (interactively linked in the ebook version) is followed by a short introduction and materials/preparation section with a list of tools and supplies. The required tools are basic and will already be in most crafter's/fibreartist's workbox.

The projects (60% of the page content) are varied and all are beautiful. They're not all quilts, there are soft furnishings, pictures, a duffel bag (see cover), and a breathtakingly beautiful needleroll which I definitely will be making for myself.

Many of the projects include surface embroidery and embellishment. Materials are listed at the beginning of each project in a sidebar along with measurements in metric (SI) and English/American. All of the templates are provided in the book.

Some of the projects are fairly advanced, especially if the crafter isn't comfortable with surface embroidery and other embellishment handwork. I wouldn't say any of them are beyond the capabilities of a keen beginner though, especially if they have access to a teacher, quilt/fabric shop employee or other knowledgeable quilty friend. There are a number of different techniques used in the projects, including paper piecing, applique, strip piecing and more.

Beautiful collection of projects.

Five stars.
