Elizabeth LeBlanc is an FBI agent feeling a little off her game, after her last assignment left her injured. Back on the job, she is called in to work on a special assignment in Texas. Imagine her surprise when an intelligence meeting has her sitting across from Derek Vaughn. Derek is a drop dead gorgeous Navy Seal, dedicated to cause and country. He and his team uncovered Intel overseas about a threat on American soil. That Intel cost the life of one of his teammates and he is determined to get answers.

Elizabeth has feelings for Derek, as these two have a history but she is practical and taking two steps back because he is so wrong for her. Ooo I loved the chemistry, tension, banter and swoons between these two. Elizabeth has missed Derek and he her, but they lead such different lives and Elizabeth is thinking it will be too painful if she lets him in. Not me dear Lizzy because Derek has me swooning. I love a take-charge alpha.  Derek's ability to gather Intel and the way he looks at Elizabeth; well let us just say I am a fan.

The case is intense as they uncovers threats in Texas. Elizabeth tries to bring Derek in through the proper channels, and despite the no go, they end up crossing paths as they both investigate. Griffin writes a well-paced, realistic suspense and I loved watching all of the players’ piece together clues to thwart the terrorist plans. At times, it was nail biting and I lost myself within the story.

I love that Derek and Elizabeth shared a past as it allowed me to quickly connect and root for a happily ever after. Griffin combines snark, tender moments and delicious page melting heat as the romance progresses. While this is part of the series, I loved that I was able to dive in and received a complete romance along with the case. An epilogue had me smiling and I fully intend to continue the series.
