Beauty and The Beast is one of my favorite fairytales, so I'm always intrigued by stories with a modern twist. I was not disappointed by Diane Alberts take on the tale!

Maggie Donavan is a bright and beautiful researcher working for a beast of a boss, Benjamin Gale III. She is the one person in the company who gets to see the real man because they are both able to let down their guard around each other. A twist of fate brings Maggie to announce to Benjamin's mother that the colleagues are actually engaged. Mrs. Gale is none to pleased with the announcement which gives Benjamin a great amount of pleasure. The couple continue with the farce, but Benjamin is more than happy to make it real.

While keeping up with their fake engagement, we see how much Maggie struggles to let Benjamin in. When she tries to keep him at a distance, it only makes them want each other that much more. I love the way Alberts describes their kisses! It is as if each time their lips touch, a cataclysmic event occurs. Their chemistry is off the charts while the threat of destroying what they are creating looms.

One of my favorite parts of the story is how Maggie can tease the Beast. She calls him Benji at times, which drives him mad, but she does it anyway. A true storyteller knows when to make you laugh and when to make you cry. Diane Alberts created the perfect moments for both and still pulled out a fairytale happily ever after.
