After a deadly attack on her home, fifteen-year-old Princess Branwen meets a mystical woman in white who prophesies that Branwen will save her homeland from falling to the Saxons.
I was a bit wary at first, with the straight forward prose and all the odd names and her unending guilt. Until the guilt ended. And the language was a bit flowery here and there without being obnoxiously so. Branwen was a bit of a foolish heroine, but not silly like some other YA heroines and she's also young so she's allowed to be foolish some. I liked that she grew up nicely through the course of the story. I felt most of the characters were developed enough to be interesting and the story itself was compelling enough. It wasn't especially deep or intriguing but it moved well and I'm absolutely going to read the second, so that's got to count for something.
Speaking of the sequel, I liked that [b:Warrior Princess|3798897|Warrior Princess (Warrior Princess, #1)|Frewin Jones|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1299830282s/3798897.jpg|3843088] is a complete book. There are no hanging storylines or unanswered questions - just a lot of room for the story to continue.
