Stars Above consist of a couple of short stories, some of which (Glitches, The Queen's Army, Carswell's Guide to Being Lucky and The Little Android) we already knew, but the rest were all completely new. Marissa Meyer had even announced there would be a wedding novella in this one, which was probably my favourite bit of news of them all. Every 'main' character gets their own short story; Cinder, Thorne, Scarlet, Wolf, Cress, Kai, Winter and Jacin and that made me so happy. I love all of these characters, maybe not equally, but they are certainly in my list of favourite characters of all time.
I won't be talking about the stories that we already know, because we already know them. But the new stories are the main focus of this review. Those stories are The Keeper (about Michelle and Scarlet Benoit), After Sunshine Passes By (about little Cress), The Princess and the Guard (about Winter and Jacin), The Mechanic (Cinder and Kai's first meeting from Kai's perspective) and Something Old, Something New the epilogue to Winter with a WEDDING!
I honestly just loved all of these new novella's equally, but Something Old, Something New is definitely my favourite. Because it just has all the characters in it, and of course there's the wedding. Naturally, I won't tell you whose wedding it is, but it wasn't the first (nor the second) pair that came to my mind. It was very cute and I just felt all the fuzzy warm feeling while reading this story.
You might know this already, but I am not huge on romance, but these books made me ship all the ships and honestly the action was just as much there as the romance was. I think the series was as much romance as action, but I don't know I just loved it so much here that I wasn't that bothered by another pairing in each book, you know? All these pairings are just perfect and amazing and I love them so so much. Probably the best part was that there weren't any love triangles in this book; okay maybe you can call Levana-Cinder-Kai a sort of love triangle, but I honestly don't because Levana is a bitch and I don't want her anywhere near my babies.
As usual, Marissa Meyer's writing is amazing, and it just sucked me right into the book as if I'd never even left. I was a bit sad when I closed this book after finishing because that meant the story was finally over (although I believe she's just announced there are going to be graphic novels? Sign me the f up for that!), but I will probably reread and reread this series for the rest of my life!
In the end, I loved Star Above so much; all of the stories were amazing. I loved rereading the ones I had already read, and I especially loved reading more new stories about the Lunar Chronicles world. If you love science fiction and fairytale retellings, you should seriously consider picking up the first book in this series, called Cinder!
My opinion on this book in one gif:
