Secrets were the integral theme throughout the previous books in the series, and Southern Heart was no different.
Chelsea, a recent graduate of nursing school, returned home with plans to spend time with her family prior to taking up her duties as a nurse. One stormy night while babysitting her niece and nephew at her brother’s home, an injured stranger appeared on the doorstep. She would soon discover he was no stranger, but her brother’s friend Mayson. This was the same friend she had been crushing on since the first time she met him. Chelsea nursed him at her home while the men in family worked to find the person responsible before he could return to finish what he started.
Mayson had a terrible childhood. He got away and joined the military, leaving his terrible past behind him, or so he thought. Eight years later, his past has come back to haunt him with a vengeance.
What a story. I love the romance which developed between Mayson and Chelsea. Sweet, slow burn and filled with passion. They impressed me as individuals. Chelsea’s sass, strength and bravery leapt off the pages. However, there was a moment in the story where she senselessly placed herself in harm’s way. Mayson has been through so much and feels he has nothing to offer Chelsea and will sacrifice his happiness for her safety. Chelsea’s determination and love wore him down. I enjoyed how he flourished from her love. They made an awesome couple and I could not help but root for them.
The threat of danger added an element of suspense to the story. I feared for them with each page turn, hoping the danger would be eliminated before it caught up with them. I waited with bated breath for it to be over.
It’s always fun catching up with characters from the previous books in a series, and the experience with Southern Heart was no different. The camaraderie and the interactions added an element of fun to this swoon worthy romance.
I cannot say it enough, I enjoyed the story from start to finish. Readers looking for swoon worthy romance featuring a strong heroine and a heart melting hero, then Southern Heart will make a great addition to your library.
