On My Knees by Meredith Wild

On My Knees (Bridge, #1)

by Meredith Wild

"Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a "work hard, play hard" lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again. Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side. When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she's become?"-- From back cover.

I wasn't sure about this one by the time I got to the last page. I liked Connor, but I couldn't see any reason why he would try so hard to start a relationship with Olivia again. I get that she was broken by Connor walking away from her five years before, but he was also broken by the love of his life not wanting to make a lifetime commitment to him. Maybe if Olivia was more forthcoming about who she really was or what her home life was like, things wouldn't have been that hard for Connor to understand where she was coming from.

This was still a decent read, just not one of my favorite books by Meredith Wild. I will check out the second book in the series, which is about Connor's brother and Olivia's best friend.
