This was fine, not fantastic, not bad. Just fine. It had the potential to be a really good creeping dread cosmic horror, unfortunately the creeping dread part just wasn't there for me. The writing didn't quite work, it was a little too matter of fact and casual to really inspire much sense of dread. This is not to say that the book is badly written, it is fine, it just didn't create the emotional response I wanted from a cosmic horror. It had all the right monsters doing all the right things, and lots of mentions of tentacles which is always a good thing. But it lacked in the dread department.
Still willing to read more from this author though.
