First I want to say I started to read this book knowing nothing about this series not having read the previous 5 books in the series.
This is a story about Tristan Ward a sexy Brit who has just been hired by Reliance Software as their new CFO – he is good friends with the team who started the company and was brought on because one of the founding members Nate Baynard is leaving to go pursue other things. Tristan has never been in any type of relationship and really isn’t looking for one.
Leah Baynard is Nate’s sister and is an attorney who has been hurt in the past so she is weary of relationships. She and Tristan strike up a friendship and as the time goes by they start to feel more. After 1 night together not wanting to risk their hearts or friendship they but their feelings aside but as they spend more time together they get to a point where they cant nor do they want to. My first concern with this book is that I didn’t feel anything with these characters – I have read books in the past starting in the middle of a series and while it’s not ideal it does work. The back story was limiting and I was having a hard time with why I cared about Tristan and Leah even though I really wanted to. There was some great tension between Leah and her sister Amy and Leah and her brother Nate that got started but never really got resolved so I felt hanging a bit. There was also a twist that occurs 90% into the book that really came out of no where and was resolved in 5 pages, so the potential it had never had the build up that it could have.
I did like the writing style of the author overall and a few of the characters where interesting and I am sure if I had read the previous books I may have been interested – it just didn’t work for me in this book.
All in all if you are a fan of this series please enjoy it, I know how it feels to wait for the next book in a series. I do have to say if you are reading this book as an introduction to this series I would recommend reading from the beginning and read this as part of the series.
