Book Summary:
Hazel Sharp grew up on Mirror Lake. Her life became more complicated as she grew up – and learned the truth around her. One thing she never expected was to inherit the family home from her father. Yet here she is.
The timing of this couldn't be stranger – as a drought is reveling secrets of the lake. One such secret is a car, long submerged. That car may hold the answers Hazel's been searching for since her mother left her life.
My Review:
Whew. There's a whole lot to unpack in Daughter of Mine – which means it's a tense thriller through and through! I was hooked from the first page. I know that a story beginning with a funeral can be dark...but this is a thriller we're talking about. So it's the best type of intro.
What unfolds in this book is as complex as it is chilling. Everything here has layers—the family, the friends, even our main character. Nothing is quite as it seems, and it is all mash-up with a myriad of emotions.
The best part about Daughter of Mine, for me, was trying to sort it all out. (Who was doing what, and why?). I got close a few times, but this book did a great job of staying one step ahead of me (without ever outright lying or breaking the promise). As such, it's one of the strongest thrillers I've read in a bit.
Be sure to check out Daughter of Mine if you're looking for a dark read about secrets, suspense, and family drama.
