Summary:
Maomao spent the earliest parts of her life training in herbal medicine. She had a path in life that she loved. Unfortunately, that was all ripped away from her when she was captured and sold to the inner palace.
Since then, Maomao's life has changed significantly. She no longer works for the inner palace – but instead works directly for Jinshi and the outer palace. That isn't to say she can't continue being a help for the allies she made within those walls.
Review:
I'll be honest with you – I love this series! However, I was uncertain what the major changes in Maomao's life would mean. Thankfully, The Apothecary Diaries Vol. 5 calmed me of any lingering concerns I may have had.
That is to say – Maomao is just as nosy as always. Somehow, she's always in the perfect place to observe something, thus setting off the strangest chain of events. This happens every volume (at least once) without fail.
There are two arcs in volume five. One Maomao stumbles into the fray, and the other intentionally pulls her into it. Both adventures were entertaining. Best of all, there are new characters to deal with, courtesy of the outer palace. I can already tell that they will be causing different drama down the line, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
