This book continues shortly after the first, as they decide to journey into unknown territory past the gate that kept them closed in all these years. One of things I loved the most was the new land that they got to explore. The land gets expanded to a place filled with magic and awesome new types of magical creatures for them to meet. The only problem for them is that there’s way more danger and those new people are out to kill them. Most of the light and goodness is gone, and it’s full of evil.
Kiora was still not my favourite character in this. She was definitely powerful and kind, but there were still quite a few things about her that bugged me. She starts to develop a crush and feelings for a new character introduced in this book, while she still can’t admit any thing she might feel for Emane. She keeps seeing Emane’s shortcomings and not how he compliments her, especially since he doesn’t come across magic naturally. She still feels a lot of pain when people get killed, even if they’re enemies, but she almost gets people hurt because she won’t fight to save them in the first place. I of course think Emane is the strongest character in this book, he goes through so much to protect her, no matter how weak others think him to be or put him down.
If you've read the first book, definitely continue on with this one!
