Book Summary:

Violeta Graceling successfully released Lakesedge (and its Lord) from a dark and terrible curse. The problem is that the price is more than she expected – or bargained for. Now she's trapped in the Underworld and desperate to find a way back home.

Instead, she will find the depth of the corruption and betrayal in her search. It will not sway her from her goals, though it will make her question everything.

My Review:

Is this really the same world I read in Lakesedge? Or the same characters? Maybe I should have re-read Lakesedge before diving in here, but wow, it feels different! I don't know why, but the magic just wasn't there for me this time.

I cannot tell you how much of a shame that is because I absolutely loved Lakesedge. Unfortunately, I just felt lukewarm about Forestfall. It was interesting, but the love triangle was telegraphed initially, and many other elements didn't hold my attention.

To be fair, Forestfall maintained those gothic/autumnal horror vibes, which was appreciated. Likewise, there was more depth than I expected inside the underworld. I wish that had been explored more (over the love triangle, which wasn't needed).

Highlights:
Gothic Horror
Romantic Fantasy
Stubborn/Magical Characters

Trigger Warnings
Self Injury
Body Horror
Drowning
