Red Blooded brings even more action, plot twists, and prophecies! It is nonstop goodness! It all starts with Jessica preparing for her impending trip to the Underworld. The witches are throwing demon magic at her to teach her how to defend herself against it, but instead, it sends her straight to Hell early! Without her team with her, and not completing her training, Jessica has to improvise. She's got to figure out where she landed and how to get to wherever her brother is being held, get him out, and get them home all on her own. Definitely not easy especially when the Underworld is full of all kinds of nasty creatures that come out at night, and a blistering sun during the day.
The majority of Red Blooded is set in the Underworld and I loved it! When Jessica first arrived, it's not at all how she (or I) pictured it. It's very clean and orderly, which was strange. But that's only one small section. There are place where the walls are alive and full of veins! There's sludge, and deadly creatures and darkness! It's also impossible to tell how time is passing, since it's not in synch with the human plane. For instance, Jessica's brother was taken 5 days ago, but he's been held captive and tortured for two months! Jessica needs to hurry up and do what she's doing and get back, since there's not telling how long she's been gone, or what could happen in that time!
We're also introduced to a very interesting new character in Red Blooded. Jessica stumbles upon someone who says they can help her, but also admits to being extremely dangerous which is exactly why she's locked away. Lily is not what she seems at all, but she holds some important information regarding the supposed prophecies about Jessica. It's good stuff to know, if they can tell what's true and what was fabrication. Of course, there's a lot more that no one knows exactly, and everyone was just as confused as me by the end of it all! But it's clear that something huge is coming!
I very much enjoyed Red Blooded! It had none of the overly chatty problems I had with the previous book (Jessica still does talk a lot, but she doesn't repeat herself nearly as much!). The pacing was great, the plot was engaging, the world building was fantastic! And in the midst of all that crazy, there's still a little time for romance! Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger! I need Pure Blooded ASAP!
