Book Summary:

Jack and her husband are what you would call pen testers – penetration testers. That means they break into different companies and the like – with permission. Their goal is always to find the weak spots in security, so a business can beef them up.

Their latest mission hasn't exactly been smooth sailing, but it could be worse. As Jack is about to find out the hard way. She comes home to find the worst. As if that wasn't enough, Jack is now suspect number one. To solve this personal mystery, she will have to go on the run.

My Review:

Wow. Okay. While I won't pretend that Zero Days was my favorite book, I will say that it differs from the rest of Ruth Ware's novels. I love that. I also think it's better than her last two books, which was a pleasant surprise.

What hit me hardest during Zero Days had to be the emotional elements. First, there's what Jack lost/saw/experienced. Then there's her desperation and the fight she's up against. That struck a chord with me. Granted, that may be my current emotional state. So this might be one of those books that depends on your mood.

Okay, I also love the idea of pen testers. I've heard the term and even read a few stories about it. And I still find it to be such a fun concept. So that probably biased me in favor of Zero Days - just a little bit.

There may or may not be a barrier to entry regarding understanding all the tech speak. I personally didn't have an issue while reading Zero Days. But my mum complained about all the tech after reading it. She said that a lot of the terminology went over her head. So keep that in mind.
