Is there anything better than an entertaining short story? How about a short story with an excellent sense of humor? Enter Any Way the Wind Blows: a science fiction/steampunk romp through alternate dimensions.
Honestly, this would have been a fun story without the implied subtext at the end. That part just made it all the more entertaining, in my mind. It certainly made me giggle! I love the idea of needing to explore different universes – not necessarily because we want to learn all about them, but because it needs to be done (hard to notice the absence of something you didn't know about, right?). It was a decent foundation for everything that followed.
Honestly, I almost wish this was a plot that Seanan McGuire would come back and revisit. I can see the potential. Then again, it holds quite nicely on its own, so I won't complain.
