I've always wanted to visit the historic English town of York and after reading this excellent debut of Chief Inspector Shadow my desire to go has increased ten fold.

The author brings the city to life through the eyes of her lead detective and weaves the plot through the alleys and side turnings of the city centre.

It's always great to see a detective who has their own problems to deal with on top of the case at hand.   The supporting characters work well with the CI and I particularly like the balance provided from the two different coroners.

A fantastic opening novel in the series
