Crater Trueblood is a lovable main character. He has a heightened sense of what is right and wrong and he is not afraid to question whether something is right or not. He is also highly intelligent, which makes for a great lead character.
Maria Medaris is a great supporting character – she is the perfect match for Crater – she has less scruples than he does and it shows. She makes him think about whether or not what they are setting out to do is right or not – because she is on the side of whatever needs to be done needs to be done whether right or wrong.
Add to the mix a few other interesting characters and you have a great mix of characters to work with. Further Helium-3 novels should provide even more insight into the characters that appear in Crater.
The plot for Crater moves very quickly. Once I got into the book I couldn’t seem to put it down. In fact, the only reason it took me almost three weeks to read the book was that I had so much reading for school that I couldn’t find the time to finish the book! If I’d had the time, I’d have read it straight through without stopping, it is that good.
I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of Crater and see for yourself.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
