Proceed With Caution:
This book contains death, violence, and mentions of rape.
The Basics:
Fire in His Veins is the sixth book in this series, but it can stand alone. This is Andrea and Liam's book! We met both of them previously, but only briefly. Liam is a drakoni who has been living in his humanoid form for the last seven years to avoid the madness that is raging through his kind, but he's finding it harder and harder to keep himself from claiming his mate and opening his mind.
My Thoughts:
Fire in His Veins is my favorite book of the series thus far! I've been interested in Liam since we first met him two books ago and needed to know what the heck is up with him. This installment also has the strongest external plot and romantic plot. Andrea's teen brother has disappeared, and she is going after him! Of course she can't go alone. She needs Liam at her side to track her brother's scent. They find him, but not in the way that Andrea hoped.
All of the books contain some form of travel, but Fire in His Veins was the most interesting. Andrea and Liam come across a lot of unusual sights on their way to her brother. They meet some cool people as well. I definitely enjoyed meeting Gabe and the elders. They were a fun addition, and it was a nice to meet characters who aren't trying to rob or murder the heroine.
Meanwhile, Fire in His Veins is the slow burn that Fire in His Spirit tried and failed to be. Andrea and Liam are hot for each other, but he is desperate to keep his mind in tact. He wants to touch her so badly, but he doesn't want to lose control. She wants him to touch her so badly, but doesn't want him to disappear. They try to find some work arounds with mixed results. We all know that they have to figure it out at some point, but that didn't lessen the tension for me.
Back to the hunt for Andrea's brother. These books get dark, but not that dark, so I knew they'd find him. But I did not expect where they'd find him and what kind of state he'd be in. It made perfect sense given what we know about this world. I was on the edge of my seat to see how the characters got out of that one!
Fire in His Veins was just super entertaining from beginning to end. I was here for this romance and completely hooked by the plot. Another winner from Ruby Dixon.
