Fire in His Fury by Ruby Dixon

Fire in His Fury (Fireblood Dragon, #4)

by Ruby Dixon

Just like Rapunzel from the fairy tales, dreamy, romantic Amy lives a hidden life. She's kept locked away in a tower for her own safety, with her sister as protector. Amy knows it's for her own good. If a dragon catches her scent, she'll be carried away and forced to become a drakoni's mate.

But Amy has a secret - she desperately wants to be stolen. She would love to be rescued from her life of idleness and the thought of a devoted drakoni male charging in and saving her from her boredom sounds perfect to her. Of course, she wants a romantic, loving male who will adore her.

What she gets is Rast.

He's not kind. Not romantic. Definitely not gentle. But he is utterly and completely obsessed with Amy and he'll stop at nothing to make the delicate female his.

Proceed With Caution:

This book contains violence, death, gore, and mentions of kidnapping.

The Basics:

Fire in His Fury is the fourth book of the series, but this one can standalone. It does pick up shortly after the events of the previous book, but no story lines are carried forward. This is Amy's book, and she is desperate to find her dragon mate and be taken away from her boring existence. She's not expecting Rast though.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed Fire in His Fury! I loved how Amy was actively attracting a mate. She builds up this grand romance in her mind, but that's not quite what she gets. Her plan of leaving her dirty underwear outside to pull in a dragon was definitely a good one. In fact, she gets two! But of course, one has to win and that winner is Rast, the most brutal of the drakoni we've met so far. Amy was hoping for someone gentle and devoted like her sister's mate. Well, Rast is devoted, but for entirely selfish reasons.

Fire in His Fury started off a little rough for me. I found myself annoyed at Amy's reaction to Rast killing "her" dragon when the two come for her. This girl (she is a girl, she's 19-20) just wanted her mate to come find her. It's not like she knew which dragon it was going to be. She did know that males would come, which is why she had been locked away for months. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that Rast found her first (which he did), but that another male would notice that she came outside as well. Think, girl!

After Amy realizes that her plan wasn't fully fleshed out and that the story in her head was a romanticized version of what was actually happening, Fire in His Fury picks up. Amy knows a bit about the dragon mating process, but her sister didn't tell her very much. She's figuring this out as she goes along and she's actually quite smart, putting together small details to get the larger picture. Meanwhile, Rast is also trying to figure out this mating thing since all he's known is other drakoni. His human mate is an entirely different creature.

There is an interesting plot in the last third or so of Fire in His Fury. We finally get to travel outside of Dallas, into another fort. This one filled with mostly women! Obviously, we needed more women for this series, so a whole compound of them makes sense. I actually really enjoyed this peek into a different lifestyle and can't wait to find out more about Gwen and Vaan! It was also really nice to see Amy come into her own. She had been portrayed as this sort of delicate flower because of her leg, but she's the one who saves the day!
