At the end of the first book in the series, Gone, I was waiting on pins and needles to find out what was going to happen to poor Macy. She was still in the clutches of a madman and was being taken away from the only other people she had any contact with since her abduction. We knew she was going to a new house with a new "mother", but where?
Her abductor who forced her to call him father, Chester, ends up taking them to live in a secluded religious community. There are rules and regulations unlike any Macy had ever followed before. There was no electricity and no excess clothing. It was winter and snow was on the ground but they weren't allowed coats.
Back at home, things had gone from bad to worse. The police are slow with information about a new development causing turmoil in the family. With all of the worry for Macy, her brother, Alex, and best friend, Zoey, have a new problem of their own. One that won't be solved overnight. Both families bond together to get through another crisis.
Claflin shines once again at keeping my heart rate up and my nerves frayed. Each chapter was a new clue coming from a different character. I loved how Claflin crafted the new characters that came into Macy's life and how hatred and love became such powerful tools of survival.
I can't wait to read the final installment in the trilogy, Over. I have to know if Macy is going to have a bright future ahead of her or if Chester will get her in his grasp once again.
Thanks so much to Stacy Claflin for providing me with a copy of Held in exchange for an honest review.
