Aribel has had a suffocating upbringing so heads off to Princeton to study and experience life outside the protective family bubble for the first time. However she only feels completely in control of her life when she's studying. She's uptight, with a smart mouth, which is one of the things that drew Grant to her.
The plot reminds me of another book I've read, so from that perspective Take Me For Granted lacked the “wow” factor. What stands out for me the most in this book is the author's writing style and how she portrays her characters. Whilst situations are filled with angst a plenty, the overall feel is one of maturity - characters that are smart and make clear choices even of they end up being wrong. There is an array of supporting character adding humour to the proceedings too.
I'm sufficiently invested in Grant and Aribel to see where their lives lead, so looking forward to reading Take Me With You very soon.
