Come Back For Me is the first book in the more recent series by this author. Corrine Michaels has definitely been on my watch for list for quite a while, I have found many of her covers stunning (and yes that is what initially) drew me to her books, but after seeing so many positive thoughts on her work I decided I needed to try out her series. Well I will say that this book delightfully surprised me and I actually hadn't read the blurb at all before grabbing up this one, I just went full speed ahead into it and I am pleased with that decision to do so. It wasn't quite what I expected but it ended up being a delicious story I didn't want to let go of.
Come Back For Me is a story of a beautiful second chance love story. Connor and Ellie are characters that once had a fling, a one night stand that gave them both wonderful memories but had no way to contact each other afterwards and they both went their separate ways. Connor forged a life in the military as a Navy SEAL, and Ellie found herself pregnant and married and living the life of a farmer's wife. But now its years later and Connor, after suffering a leg injury, had to retired from the SEAL's and when his father dies, he and his brothers gather at the home they all despise to settle affairs. But is forced to stay there for six months, endeavoring to make the house and ranch cleaned up to sell so they can all make a profit on it. But then he meets a little girl who charms his heart and then when he meets her mother, he is drawn back to the past. But Ellie's life is full of terror, as her husband is abusive and controlling and when their past and secrets clash, Ellie and Connor will need to find a way to heal and live as a family..
He was like a comet that set the sky on fire, and the tail has never faded for me.
Come Back For Me was such a deeply emotional and riveting journey and I was all for it. I was so captivated by this family, but who won my heart....Ellie's daughter. She is so precocious and darling and sweet and I just knew from that first meeting how much I would love her in this book. I adore kiddies in romance, and she definitely was a light in this book to balance out some of the darker elements. And boy did she have Connor wrapped around her little finger. Ellie was such a strong heroine and I admired seeing what she has had to deal with all of these years with her husband and having the courage to face death just to make sure her daughter is safe. There is a "secret baby" trope in this one but I really liked it. Now I rarely if ever actually enjoy this trope, but I did like the way it was written in this book, as Ellie had no way of finding Connor so that actually made sense to me.
We may have lost our chance years ago, but I’m not a kid anymore, and I have my target set. I’m waiting for the sights to align
The romance that blossoms between Connor and Ellie is fantastic in every way and I honestly couldn't get enough of seeing these two together. There were so many heartfelt moments between these two that build into a crescendo of sensuality and deep relatable emotion. What they face and what they have both endured in their lives is heart breaking at times, but each individually have such solid spines of steel in finding their own ways to heal from the trauma's of it all. I liked that they didn't let those burdens keep them from embracing what they had together.
You’re everything I remembered and nothing I was prepared for
Overall I found Come Back For Me to be a endearing contemporary that blends the light and the dark in such a beautiful way and I found this romance to be a true gem!
