I did not read the previous books in the series, but I had no problems following Chase and Lauren’s story. However, I am familiar with the author’s work, so I expected an interesting, intense and passionate read, and she did not disappoint.
The Autumn You Became Mine happened to be more than a story about second chances. It’s about overcoming pride and understanding that accepting help from friends or family does not mean surrendering your independence. It also showed that placing oneself in danger is never the best way to address one’s problems.
I found this to be a well written story, which featured flawed, but likeable characters. Although there were a few times I wanted to lock them in a room so they would sit and talk out their issues. They both failed to recognise the love they both had for each other. Also, the fact they kept doing things to push each other away became tiresome. Despite all of this, I became invested in Chase and Lauren’s lives. I wanted them both to find peace with their past, accept the things over which they had no control and acknowledge their love for each other.
In spite of their flaws they both had admirable qualities. They both epitomised the following characteristics, determination, selflessness, independence and dedication.
I enjoyed their romance, which, despite the challenges proved endearing. Their emotions jumped off the pages and I felt everything they went through. Their pain, sorrows, uncertainties, insecurities, triumphs and happiness combined led me on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster ride.
Secondary characters played their roles in enhancing the story. There happened to be a few whom I enjoyed meeting, and would love to learn more about them.
Overall, Lora delivered a well-paced emotional story which kept the reader glued to the pages from start to finish. Readers who enjoy second chance romance and flawed and realistic characters will love The Autumn You Became Mine.
