Greg Heffley is not the typical MG protagonist. He's mean, lazy and manipulative, uses his intelligence for chaos instead of good, cares too much about his image and treats his best friend, Rowley, poorly. Thank goodness Rowley is always winning at life because he deserves so much better. Diary of a Wimpy Kid also reminded me about just how mean middle schoolers can be.
The plot isn't linear, but since this is a diary and meant to be read for fun, the lack of substance and plot didn't really bother me.
The comedy aspect is also hit-and-miss, with more misses than anything else. I didn't even chuckle.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid isn't a great book, but it served its purpose as an entertaining and quick read that I didn't have to think too much about. It helped me pass time.
