PLEASE NOTE It has come to my attention that the ARC I received has formatting issues that included a whole chapter being missing. Having read that now the book made a WHOLE lot more sense. Thus my rating will be adjusted to 4-Stars to reflect that fact.
This book started off ROUGH. I am not going to sugar coat it. Chapter one starts off with both the hero and heroine being 19 or 20. Mikayla is a cam girl and Tomás is one of her clients. Both have feelings for the other even though they don't know who the other is or what they look like. Then chapter two shoots us 8 or 9 years in the future with NO indication that we are now years in the future. NONE, not 8 years later NOTHING. I felt liked "CHAPTER ONE" should have been titled "PROLOGUE" with at least some indication when CHAPTER TWO starts that we are now years on.
It was confusing, to say the least because chapter one ends very abruptly. On top of that, the heroine is now working for the hero, and then there is something about a book she is writing, then he blackmails her. Honestly, at that point, I was ready to chuck this one because I felt like I was dropped kicked into a plot missing HUGE portions of backstory.
That said, I soldiered on and did begin to get sucked into the story. Or really, the STORIES since there was A LOT of stuff happening in this book, We have Mikayla and Tomás's story, we have Mateo and parts of his story. We have Santi and parts of his story. We have Mikayla's BFF and his story. And of course, we have Elijah. Like I said A LOT of things were happening to A LOT of people.
Apart from the rough beginning, I did find the writing engaging. The pace was solid even with so many different stories going on. There were twists and turns (that ending...it's a cliffy so be prepared.) Action and violence. The sex scenes were hot. There were a plethora of interesting characters. I loved the Ramírez family and how they protect their own.
Overall I found it engaging enough that I will continue to book two when it is released. My rating would have been higher, but unfortunately, because of the beginning, I was left struggling to decide if this was a 3-star book or a 4-star. I ultimately decided to go with 3.5ish and call it a day.
