Initial Thoughts: A great book of "extras" for Tortall fans. In the foreword to the book, Pierce implies the book is great for both longtime readers and newcomers, but no reader is really going to get what' going on here without having read the books about Alanna, Daine, Kel, and Aly; there's an assumption you're going to recognize allusions to characters and events from all of these series. Some of the content in the book is more narrative; some is more of a reference, such as the sections describing different Immortals or the timeline of Tortall's history. Calling the book a spy's guide seems somewhat misleading, because much of it is not actually about spying, but it's all very fun for fans.
