Christmas at the Gingerbread Café is a lovely, cheery festive read, a good old-fashioned feel-good romance’ – Books with Bunny

The icing on her Christmas cake!

Christmas is the season the Gingerbread Café in Ashford, Connecticut was made for…but owner Lily couldn’t be feeling less merry if she tried. She’s spent another year dreaming of being whisked away on a sleigh-ride for two, but she’s facing festive season alone – again. And, just to give her another reason to feel anything other than candy-cane perky, a new shop across the road has opened… Not only is it selling baked goods, but the owner, with his seriously charming smile, has every girl in town swooning.

But Lily isn’t about to let her business crumble — the Gingerbread Café is the heart of the community, and she’s going to fight for it! This could be the Christmas that maybe, just maybe, all her dreams – even the someone-to-decorate-the-Christmas-tree-with ones – really do come true!

When author Rebecca Raisin offered me her Christmas Novella Christmas at the Gingerbread Cafe to review, I jumped at the chance. I love novellas, sometimes they’re the perfect stop gap when you don’t wish to start a full length book so it was the perfect read one evening before bed.

Newly single Lily, works at and owns the Gingerbread Cafe in a small town in Connecticut, with friend CeCe, and she’s quite vexed when a new store opens right across the road, offering cooking classes and turkeys, pretty much doing and selling things Lily herself would like to do. So Lily decides she’s not going to take it lying down and she lets the owner Damon know exactly what she thinks of him, but there’s more to Damon than meets the eye and there’s not only love in the air, but potential partnership…

Christmas at the Gingerbread Cafe was a short and sweet novella, taking me about half an hour or so to complete and I was quite surprised by the American setting and dialect, not knowing Rebecca was American. It was a bit cheesy at times, but for a short, quick, simple read, it was ok and I hear Rebecca is writing a new Gingerbread novella, so I will most definitely be reading it.
