Daughter of Dusk, the sequel to Midnight Thief, follows the same tried and true fantasy plot: take down a corrupt leader. While I enjoyed the world building and some of the side characters (Flick!) I still wasn’t all that taken with the main character Kyra. Blackburne excels in this sequel with excellent world building and character development, but really the series felt a little redundant with the repeating plot themes.

Three stars for Blackburne’s writing and even though I didn’t like Kyra (or Tristam, or their relationship), she crafted excellent well rounded characters with a world to match. If you are looking for a sharp fantasy novel – Midnight Thief and Daughter of Dusk are definitely worth your time.
