I really enjoyed Surgical. It’s part hard sci-fi superheroes and part crime mystery with plenty of action. This time there was no ramp up required, I was in the story and hooked quick. I love how it builds up and rolls through with the action. Yet it’s not a brainless shoot ‘em up.
Do I understand the science? Not completely, but I get it enough for the story and I love how it’s explained. With all the nerds, it’s just natural and awesome.
I love how we saw more of Mysterious Save the Day Woman. Her character? ON POINT! But Fuck Her Storyline ending. Seriously. That just fucking blows.
I may not like all the characters as much as her, but they’re all flawed and fantastically human. The switching perspectives worked without a hitch and it was great seeing all their viewpoints personally.
Except, well, the villain. That’s standard and well, not bad but against everything else, they’re disappointing. Not in being a sneaky, challenging adversary, but as a person. Mmmm, that’s not quite right either. It’s just a standard psychopathic enemy, which I’ve seen a lot of. But he played his part well.
The only thing I actually don’t like is the cover. I understand the constraints of being an Indie author but still, **sad face**. That’s just cosmetic though. Please don’t judge this book by the cover!
