Hot Blooded was so fun! It picks up immediately where Full Blooded ended and covers the span of Jessica's two day rescue mission. I love these kind of narrow time frame stories! The tracker vampires, Eamon and Naomi, arrive right on time and inform Jessica's group that Selene's hideout is in the mountains of Canada. They all head out, but the trip is made more complicated by their unwanted guest: Detective Hart. The Alpha wants to put him to death, but Jessica has taken full responsibility for him hoping that he'll be an asset to the pack. It takes him coming face-to-face with some pretty scary stuff before that happens.
I was highly entertained by Hot Blooded. Even though it took awhile for the plot to really get moving, there's a lot of awesome world building going on. Of course, we have to learn more about Jessica's odd abilities. She has even more than she thought, and they just keep coming. Their discoveries are due in part to all of the bizarre creatures she encounters on the way to Selene's lair. There are so many types of supernatural creatures and I loved meeting all of them! Even though they're scary and evil, but whatever! It was a surprise around every turn for Jessica and her team.
I don't have any real complaints about Hot Blooded, only some minor annoyances with the final battle. You all know those villains who like to talk? Well, Selene isn't exactly one of those. Jessica is the hero who talks too much! Selene is a tough opponent, but not as tough as she thinks. Of course, Jessica overpowers her, otherwise the series would end here, but then she spends so much time debating what to do that she nearly misses her chance to take Selene out for good! There was no good reason for all of the chit-chat except to allow Selene to escape and have more fighting. Just do what you need to do, girl!
Hot Blooded also ends on a cliffhanger. At least this time, something was accomplished, but more trouble is brewing. There's a war between the Northern Pack and the rogue wolves coming up, and witches and wolves are disappearing from the area without a trace. I'm curious how Jessica is going to help with that when she has to get her butt to New Orleans soon, and there's the (not so) small matter of a visit from a demon lord claiming she has a court date in hell. Fun times to be had!
