Initial Thoughts

I’m not used to reading middle grade so it was hard keeping that in mind sometimes. I also really love any story about the Gods. Any Gods. I’m getting a little tired of the Greek one’s so these Norse myths were really fun to read about.

My New BFF

I loved Reyna in this book. I found that she really grew up and learned to trust the other kids. It seemed like there was going to be a love interest there but I’m glad it didn’t happen. This book was so much better without the romance.

My Crush

I had a little crush on Fen in this book I think. He was put in a really tough position and he tried everything he could to get out of it. I loved the effort he made though and his position sucked but he really did make the best of it. I’m glad he got his happy ending too.

Writing Style

Two great writers combined to make a great book. I wasn’t expecting anything else. I think the characters all grew up a ton and I’m glad because it made the book more realistic. Nobody could go through that and not learn some new things. I liked how the plot was basically expected to turn out a certain way but the characters all made sure that their story ended different.

Closing Thoughts

I think this is a great middle grade story for any age really. It kind of goes along with the Percy Jackson series except that there’s only one descendant for each god. It made it easier to keep track of everyone that way. I loved learning about all the myths and creatures and I’m sad it’s over. I’m happy about the ending and excited that nothing was too expected. I’d recommend this series to anyone who loved Percy Jackson or anyone who loves to learn about mythology that isn’t Greek. There’s tons of great morals in this book that I think anyone, not just kids, should read.
