It took me a while to get into the story, but the moment I did, I was hard-pressed to put it down. My initial struggles were mostly because of my unfamiliarity with the concept of elemental vampires. Hence, it took sometime for me to grasp the concept. Action, intrigue, mystery and suspense permeated the pages of Martyr’s Promise.
It was fun meeting Carwyn and Brigid, the vampire couple with whom the story centres around. Carwyn is an earth elemental, while Brigid wields fire. They made it their mission to protect the vulnerable. Hence, the reason for their presence in Northern California.
Two youngsters were missing and the vampire in charge of that area sought their help in finding them. Throughout the course of their search, the pair, along with their friends, discovered nefarious activities by a rogue vampire. This is where things became quite intense and interesting.
Now, do not go into this series expecting romance. While familiarising myself with this world, I discovered that the romance for the couples appearing in this story occurred in the author’s Elemental World series. Now, while I didn’t get the chance to read this series, the Hunter provided sufficient information about the couples. This made them relatable and left me wanting to read their romance. Carwyn and Brigid were so in tune with each other, one can clearly see they were meant for each other. I loved the dynamics between them.
Despite my initial struggles, Martyr’s Promise proved to be a wonderful and unique story. Readers who enjoy paranormal mysteries should consider adding a Martyr’s Promise to their reading list.
