Until the Storm Passes is a rollicking horror adventure set in the stormy Australian outback. This novel gets a couple of big ticks in areas that matter but aren't often quite right in the genre; length and pace. At about one hundred and sixty pages, Until the Storm Passes is the perfect length for the story. Just like a perfect storm, the narrative builds on the horizon before promptly sweeping in, and once the tension is thick enough, the thunder and lightning are unleashed. Taylor's novel also has all the elements we expect from a small-town supernatural horror story. There are the outsiders, a troubled family on the road, forced to take shelter, and the locals...oh yes, the isolated rural community and its strange cult. The townsfolk are doing what they always do in the Aussie outback, hoping and praying for rain...but perhaps they're also doing a little more than that!

I'd certainly recommended Until the Storm Passes to fans of Australian horror but I also feel it's a worthy introduction to our own particular flavour of horror to readers from around the world looking for a change from all those rural horror tales set in the States.

So, it's time to get going. Pack your bags, hop in the car, and see where the road takes you, but if the storm hits while you're passing Barnsford, don't stop, whatever you do!
