Despite just being diagnosed a year ago with hearing loss, twelve-year-old Rayne is trying to go about life as "normal" and comes up against difficulties as she tries to do so.

Hear Me is the perfect title for this book because both sides are crying out, don't just listen to me, hear my heart.

Mom and Dad, you don't understand what it's like for me, all I hear from you is tests and solutions...I'm not there yet, please hear my heart.

Rayne, we love you and we're concerned about you, we want the normal life that you want, this is a way to get there, please hear our hearts.

In a way, this tug of war reminds me of the book, My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

Also, I can't help but throw a little Godly perspective in here. The parent's plight can be likened to that of God's plight with believers and non-believers.

God speaks to us as we read/listen to His words or when we share our testimony and we don't hear His heart. We are not listening in full, we're listening for what might affect us negatively. And He with love tries to show us the broad picture but we can't hear Him.

What stood out to me in this book is the love. When faced with difficulties, it's easy to head to the land of denial, or the road called frustration while the road called perseverance is just a block away.

I'm so glad it worked out and that Rayne realized that her ears are not all she is and that she is not broken!
