I read this graphic novel when it first came out. It is a story I really love and decided that I wanted to read through it again. Since I wasn’t reviewing when I read it the first time, I thought I would share my thoughts on it now.

This is a prequel to the Mercy Thompson series. It tells the story of how Mercy moved into the Tri-County area and how the Columbia Basin Pack became the pack in the area.

So Mercy comes to the area to interview for a job as a teacher (what she really wanted to do before becoming a mechanic). When she finds out that the school is more concerned with her ability to be a coach than her ability to teach, she gets frustrated. She decides to go on a run and comes across a rogue werewolf pack. Then a second pack comes along to help save her.

When her car is damaged in the fight with werewolves, she takes it to the closest shop, which happens to be Zee’s only he isn’t there. Tad is manning the shop. A vampire comes in and tries to intimidate Tad. Mercy steps in. Oh and Stefan makes an appearance. We even see how Mercy finds her trailer and how Adam ends up as her neighbor.

I really enjoyed this prequel to the Mercy series. I loved seeing some of my favorite characters, Adam, Daryl, Tad, Zee, Stefan and Uncle Mike. I’m not a huge fan of the illustrations in this book, though there are some that I love (young Mercy is my favorite). Some of the illustrations are very graphic. There’s quite a few of naked Mercy and others that are very gory. If you’re a fan of Mercy Thompson, I recommend you give this book a try, even if you’re not a huge fan of graphic novels. It is a great way to give them a try.
