Oops, I've Fallen

After reading Single Dad Seeks Juliet earlier this year and LMAO, I eagerly started acquiring other Max Monroe reads, hoping for the same hilarity. While I really enjoyed Oops, I've Fallen, it fell a bit short of my expectations.

I liked the characters quite a lot. They kind of reminded me of an Along Came Polly pairing, with Carly being the flighty, unorganized Jennifer Aniston and Ryan being the risk assessing (LITERALLY, THEY HAVE THE SAME JOB), type A Ben Stiller. But as much as that made me laugh in the movie, it wasn't exploited to full potential in this book. Instead, the humor settles on Ryan and Carly's parents, their romance, and the shenanigans in their retirement community.

And it is funny! Stella (Carly's mom) is on Tik Tok and her dance videos and "Thirsty Thursdays" are hilarious. But "old people" has a limit to how far the humor goes for me. I mean, there's a sweetness there and let's face it, we all hope to be those old people someday (if we aren't already). So it got old and I would have rather spent more time and humor on the pairing of these two opposites. Especially because their romance is electric and I would have really liked more of that!

This book had the same narration pair of Stephanie Rose and Alexander Cendese as the other Max Monroe books I've read, and I continue to enjoy them as a pair. Even though this wasn't my favorite, I did enjoy it and will definitely continue reading Max Monroe.
