An Obsession with Vengeance by Nancy Haviland

An Obsession with Vengeance (Wanted Men, #3)

by Nancy Haviland

Maksim Kirov is a mobster who gets what he wants, both at his posh gentleman’s club in Hell’s Kitchen and in the bedroom. Sexy, dangerous, and obsessed with control, he’s risen through the ranks to become a highly respected leader in the tight-knit Tarasov crime syndicate. He rules with an iron fist…until he meets Sydney Martin.

The Australian-born Sydney is determined to refuse Maks’s advances, despite their electrifying chemistry. The owner of a neighboring nightclub, Sydney rules her own domain. But when a deal with a Mexican drug cartel goes terribly wrong, she has no choice but to turn to Maksim and the Tarasov organization for protection. Could giving in to their intense attraction be what saves both Maks and Sydney? Or will their all-consuming passion—and her shocking secret—destroy their lives?

In the hot and scandalous third installment of the Wanted Men series, lust and loyalty clash in New York’s mob underworld.

I love this series. If you like alpha male mafia men, this is a great series! Its a little more graphic than some books in the genre (Rachel Van Dyken's Elite series for example), but not so graphic as to put me off so bravo there! The only reason I didn't go with a full 5 stars was that at times, this book seemed to drag, then speed up exponentially, then drag again. There were parts that I could have done will less information about, and parts that I wanted more.
Maks is a great hero in this book. I didn't expect to like him so much. He is a man whore in the previous books and I HATE that. But, once he sets his sights on Sydney he doesn't stray. Sydney was an interesting character as well. She was so independent on the outside that if people didn't get to know her they wouldn't realize how isolated she was. She had no real friends and welcomed the support from Maks. It was very honest to me-this woman had been independent because she had to not because its what she wanted for her life. She was thrilled to give up some of that control and I thought it was really honest. Kudos on a well written book!
