Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres offering me a little mystery, some action and a side dish of romances with an HEA. Lori Foster and her Love Undercover series has been one of my recent favorites. Since the beginning I have been patiently waiting for Rowdy Yates tale. Getting Rowdy is hands down my favorite of the series to date and was soooo worth the wait! Rowdy Yates Is my new book boyfriend. Three word review: Hot, addicting, and a perfect read.
Rowdy is cleaning up his recently acquired bar. He has removed the darker elements, hired a cook and is still pursuing his now bartender Avery Mullins. Avery is ready to cave, but she isn’t ready to be another one night stand. As sexual tension mounts, a dark element from Avery’s past resurfaces and Rowdy is determined to protect her. The tale that unfolds was well paced, and deliciously hot. I found myself laughing, and swooning as the rest of the world slipped away.
We first met Rowdy in the first book, Run the Risk as he worked to protect his sister and I instantly fell in love with this bad boy. Forced to moved in grey areas of the law to protect his little sister he was a heartbreaker from day one. Rowdy can be a little rough around the edges, never gets too attached to woman, and uses one night stands to chase his own personal demons. He is a straightforward, no-nonsense type of guy wrapped in a package that will turn your knees to jelly and make you blush like a school girl when he meets your gaze..oh yeah I am in love. Beneath all this smexy, tough guy exterior is a sweet, damaged soul who fights for the underdog and has no idea he is falling in love with Avery. Avery is smart, feisty and a heroine you easily identify with. She is independent, won’t except anything less than she deserves and carries secrets from her past without burdening others. I loved how she slowly got Rowdy, and let him figure things out without overwhelming him. The romance was hot and slowly built from trust and friendship making it the most genuine romance in this series. Logan, Pepper, Alice and Reese all make appearances and further the tale. I loved getting updates on all of them. Marge and Dash make an appearance and Foster hints at the next book’s storyline. Yes I am drooling! We meet two new characters. A sexy young man, who has me oh so curious named Cannon. He cruises the streets at night cleaning up his neighborhood and a young boy who will melt your heart.
Unlike the other books in the Love Undercover series where the suspense element took center stage, Getting Rowdy focuses more on Rowdy and his growth. Foster really peeled back his layers, fleshing him out and exposing his raw, gooey center. Eep! While he is the focus there are several suspenseful threads woven into the tale that made the pacing perfect. They all felt genuine and kept me on edge. I could not put this book down! The romance was delicious and the love scenes were both hot and incredibly romantic. This was my favorite book of the series from the pacing to the characters. I found Avery’s secret, and the danger that comes from it, disturbing, and cannot help but be impressed by Avery. Each of the stories in the Love Under Cover series can be read as a standalone, but why you would want to miss out on any of these smexy alpha males and feisty, strong heroines? So yeah, now I am falling asleep every night dreaming of being a bartender with benefits! I am anxious to see if Foster can shake Rowdy off the pedestal I have placed him on with the next man featured in this series. Although, a girl can never have too many book boyfriends!
