Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin

Blood & Honey (Serpent & Dove, #2)

by Shelby Mahurin

The stakes are higher. The witches are deadlier. And the romance is red-hot. The eagerly anticipated sequel to the New York Times and Indiebound bestseller Serpent & Dove is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and is an instant New York Times bestseller!

Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel are on the run from coven, kingdom, and church-fugitives with nowhere to hide.

To survive, they need allies. Strong ones. But as Lou becomes increasingly desperate to save those she loves, she turns to a darker side of magic that may cost Reid the one thing he can't bear to lose. Bound to her always, his vows were clear: where Lou goes, he will go; and where she stays, he will stay.

Until death do they part.

I always round up reviews since there’s no half stars on goodreads but this would be a solid 3.5.

The first half of the book was slow as shit, the second half was full of action which made it ~seem~ exciting but I felt so disconnected from all of the characters that I didn’t even care about what was going on.

Lou and Reid seemed like completely different people -I understand we never got to see them together really after everything came to face about Lou being a witch, Reid having powers etc etc but they were different people in this book. There was no ease or transition into who they were post chateau versus who they were before.
The whole book felt rushed and disconnected and that ending? Like what?? It didn’t feel like a cliffhanger- more like a chapter cut off mid way through.

Over all I think book 3 is gonna be superb and this was ~I guess~ an alright builder book, I just don’t know what happened from book one to this, because this felt like it was picked up and written by someone completely new and I wasn’t a fan.
