This was a fascinating book, overall - I had no idea of Artemisia's background, and learning about it was an interesting look at how women were historically treated, even those with such incredible talent as she had. I did find a few moments in the book to be a bit blunt, if one was thinking about using this book as a tool for teaching anyone younger than high school. It wasn't so much the discussion of her sexuality as the images that would probably be considered too much for most? In addition, while I didn't have a problem with the black and white images - in fact, it lent a starkness to the story in places where it was well deserved - but when discussing how her style changed, it would have been nice to have some color. Not everywhere, or even in the story, but the notes? To be able to see the difference? Would definitely have been helpful.
The book itself is big and gorgeous and would make an excellent gift for an art-lover or history buff.
