Duplicity by Nikki Jefford

Duplicity (Spellbound, #2)

by Nikki Jefford

If Graylee Perez thought sharing a body with her twin sister was bad, dealing with a duplicate of herself is two times worse. Gray the second doesn’t seem to get that Lee’s boyfriend is off-limits. Then there’s the problem of Adrian Montez. He expects one of the Grays to be his. Nearly a year later, the council is on to them for past misdeeds; Lee, along with the rest of the coven, has lost control of her powers; and, Gray is being stalked by what looks like the Grim Reaper. If the two Grays work together, they may stand a chance of setting things right and making it out alive.

After a string of bad sequels, I was so happy to read Duplicity! It's so much better than the first book! Not only does it not have any of the issues that I had with Entangled, but the plot is a lot more fun and exciting. Instead of two girls sharing one body, there's one girl in two bodies! One year after her death, Graylee finds herself in her new host body, Stacey Lee Morehouse, like normal, but then she wakes up in France in her twin Charlene's body...again! The first Graylee simply goes by Lee and has been going about her life as normal. Well, normal for Stacey. The second Graylee still goes by Gray, but knows nothing of the past 9 months. Which Graylee is the real one? That's something both are wondering.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hang out with yourself? I know I have, and I'll admit that the idea seems a little awkward and boring. However, for Gray and Lee, the awkward part is right, but it's not boring. Those two do not really get along at all, which is strange, since who knows you better than yourself? I think the author did a great job with this unusual situation. Each Graylee reads like Graylee, but they're obviously different. This of course causes some complications, especially for Raj.

The plot moves along at a nice pace. It always seems like something was happening. In addition to the duplicate Graylee situation, there's also the issue of all of the witch and wizards in the area having their spells backfire. What the heck is going on? Is it connected to the duplicate Graylees, or is something else going on? And Graylee's mother's "contact" is also in the area, wanting to correct his mistake. All of these plots had a level of mystery and excitement about them that kept me reading. It also helped that Charlene wasn't around to get on my nerves! I certainly enjoyed getting to know Adrien better, too. I have a soft spot for villains, but he may not be as bad as he seems.

Overall, I really enjoyed Duplicity. It's a great sequel, so fans of the first book will not be disappointed. And readers who were on the fence about Entangled should definitely continue on with Duplicity!
