It's one of the few books where I enjoyed that it was written in first person, because Sam is interesting and honest and even relatable and exceptionally believable. The choices she makes are engaging and completely understandable. Even when I knew what was coming I was curious to see how she would react. I enjoyed the way the story unfolded, how it surprised me and that it didn't end the way I expected.

Throughout the story I found it to be painful at times, and then affirming, hopeful and reckless. But throughout, Sam's voice is authentic and this lends a poignancy to it. It's not the sort of thing I would normally like, but I really kind of did. and it stayed with me, even after I was finished.
