The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

The Fall Up (The Fall Up, #1)

by Aly Martinez

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

I'm feeling mighty giddy at the moment...

I just shut the study door on my husband. I love him dearly but he drives me bloody crazy sometimes. He, for some reason, has no problems concentrating with background noises. Me, not so much. Outside my study door…HE’S HANGING A BLOODY MIRROR!! Yes, I know, he’s doing what I asked him to do and I knew there would be some noise involved. But, I’m trying to write an AWESOME review on one of the best books I’ve EVER read. Now the dog next door is barking and someone else decided it’s the perfect time to mow the lawn. How’s a reviewer supposed to work under these conditions???

The struggle is REAL! I’ll do my best, but I’m not sure I can do this book justice…especially in these working conditions. 😉

The Fall Up is my idea of the perfect contemporary romance. We’re treated to an emotional journey that makes you question things. We get to witness friendship, love and connections that form and develop. There’s also that little part where you look into the life of someone famous and feel a little jealous at the start, then thankful that you’re quite ordinary by the end. I enjoyed the emotional highs and lows because they were never too much. There was a maturity in the characters and real-life situations and problems that didn't make it feel OTT or silly. Funny enough, what felt like a movie reading, never felt like it was scripted.

For me, I loved all of the characters I met, but Sam, I will remember for a long time to come. He’s the reason why I read romance and keep going back for more. He’s no fairytale prince but a flesh and blood man who makes mistakes but manages to always be the person you can count on. The fact that he’s smoking hot, says the sweetest things AND is thoughtful, kind and generous, well future romance reads, you’ve got a lot to live up to.

I loved that the superstar heroine surprised me. I was kind of expecting a Princess in Designer Shoes and got her, but I also got a chick who carries a burden. She feels she owes the world for her fame and she’ll work her guts out to show she cares. Levee was an amazing character and I loved that I saw her struggles and shared in her journey to balance her life and her commitments.

Aly Martinez has treated us to an amazing love story that I could easily see (in my mind) like a movie. I know my hero and heroine, what they looked like and how they would stand, sit and move. The additional characters were easy to imagine and I felt the energy they would create when all together. I saw their houses, Sam’s work shed and even what their bridge looked like at midnight. My movie is EPIC. Even though I would love to see The Fall Up made into a real movie, I’m just not sure it would do justice to the movie Aly created in my head.

I’m a little late in sharing the epic goodness of The Fall Up but, if you’re like me and heard it was good and just waiting to read it soon…ish, move it up your list. The Fall Up (and Sam) will leave you giddy.
