Pumpkinheads

by Rainbow Rowell

Bestselling author Rainbow Rowell and Eisner Award–winning artist Faith Erin Hicks have teamed up to create Pumpkinheads: a smart and swoony Rainbow Rowell romance in full colour graphic novel form, about two teens discovering what it means to leave behind a place – and a person – with no regrets.

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world (not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is). They say goodbye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September.

But this Halloween is different – Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last goodbye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: what if instead of moping, they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?

This was absolutely adorable.
Inevitable Rowell tears, rn
Quick, very cute, sweet read. I read half yesterday in a half hour, and half today in a half hour.

Deja & Josiah (Josie, as Deja affectionately calls him) are seasonal friends, they are best friends once a year, in October, when they both work the Succotash Hut at the Pumpkin Patch.
They have a hilarious dynamic, Deja made me laugh out loud several times!

It’s their LAST NIGHT EVER working the patch, because next year they will be off to college, so Deja drags Josie away from responsibility, and plans an adventure for their last night in the patch. She wants them to really experience the patch for once, and mainly, to help him talk to his crush that he’s had for years and has never even spoken to, so she makes it her mission— it’s a best friends duty, she says.

Needless to say, hijinks & mayhem, & a bit, nope, a whole bunch (
