There was just something about BENEATH THIS MASK that called to me. Whether it was the characters or the setting of New Orleans, I don't know. But I absolutely fell in love with Charlie and Simon.
They seemed a somewhat unlikely couple: Simon the local city Councilman and possible Gubernatorial candidate and Charlie, the tatted up, bad attitude tattoo parlor receptionist and clothing sales clerk. But with both of these characters, we discover there is much more to them than the expectations placed on them by their parents...which stifle both of them...but Charlie to a greater extent. Charlie may have shed her parents expectations sooner than Simon, but when they are both true to themselves and completely honest with each other, there is no question these two belong together.
I loved the storyline Megan March created for this couple because it showed that despite how someone looks, they could very easily be a person who is much more polished than the one standing in front of them. The ponzi scheme angle to the story was intriguing and left me wondering if those running the schemes have a similar thought process like Charlie's father (which I won't spoil because you need to pick this one up).
I devoured this book, the characters and I'll be on pins and needles until we get Constantine's book. I have a feeling there is a good story there. If you haven't heard of Meghan March, definitely pick this one up. It's totally sexy, angsty, sassy and all sorts of good.
