Adrift picked up where Submerged left off. This installment takes us to Hollywood, where Chase, and his love interest are busy working on a new movie. Chase is a former marine turned stuntman while Becca is a sought after actress. The chemistry between them sizzled and popped. However, Becca fears getting close to Chase. A secret from her past bleeds her financially while threatening to derail her career. She fears the impact it may have on her personal relationship.
Chase recognized something was wrong when she began behaving strangely after she acted out a scene, which made her uncomfortable. He offered to help with whatever was causing her distress, but she refused to open up and let him in. However, when the threats and demands intensified, she turned to the one person she knew could protect her and keep her secret.
The story started out slow and took its time building up to an exciting finish. I loved how the story developed, however, I would have preferred if there was more action. The romance developed nicely, despite the heroine’s horrid actions in the initial stages. Persons would be outraged if a man took advantage of a woman while she’s drunk, so why should it be ok for a woman to do the same thing to a man. Yes, the heroine did that, then left with no form of communication for several weeks. Lucky for her Chase is a forgiving person.
I had a good time reconnecting with the other Davenport siblings and their significant others. Chase’s best friend, Ryder. whom he served with, intrigued me. He struggles with personal demons. I am curious to learn what triggered those demons. Looking forward to reading his story.
I enjoyed the storyline involving the villain. His sense of entitlement, which triggered his desire for revenge, amazed me. He definitely got what he deserved and more. I have no sympathy for his type. This aspect of the story kept me on my toes and I enjoyed how it played out.
Adrift served up a wonderful romance with a slice of suspense and action. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
